In a shocking incident, a newborn baby girl was found dead in a garbage dump in Kishtwar town on Saturday.
Sweepers of the municipal committee found the body in a roadside dump in the town, while they were cleaning the roads in the early morning hours, an official said.
Upon being alerted, a police team rushed to the spot and shifted the body to district hospital, Kishtwar, the official said, adding that a large number of people gathered near the dump and demanded a high-level investigation to nab the culprits.
Medical superintendent of the district hospital, S D Atri, said that the postmortem and other medical formalities had been performed and the report was handed over to the police.
“An FIR has been registered connection and an investigation is underway. We have not arrested anyone till now, but we are probing the incident thoroughly,” a police officer said.
