Protests in Bhadarwah as right-wing groups accuse police of ‘terrorism’

Protests were held amid a shutdown in Seri Bazaar area of Bhadarwah town in Doda district on Monday evening against the arrest of two local youth for stone pelting.

The shopkeepers in Seri Bazaar area downed their shutters at6 pm, gathered at Laxmi Narayan Chowk and sat on a sit-in protest there.

   

The protest which was jointly called by right wing Hinduorganisations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), BJYM, RSS and BJP demandedthe release of the arrested youth including an auto rickshaw driver and abarber.

The Doda police have accused the arrested youth ofinvolvement in violence in the town on May 16, which erupted after the killingof one Naeem Ahmed Shah.

The protesters alleged that the police, especially SHOBhadarwah, who has been recently transferred from Kishtwar is biased againstHindu community and is unnecessarily harassing them.

The protesters termed the arrest and “harassment of youth”as “nothing but police sponsored terrorism launched by district administrationto curb the nationalist voices.”

Meanwhile extra columns of CRPF and police were deployed inSeri Bazaar area of Bhadarwah to thwart any untoward incident.

As the last reports came in, the protestors while raisingslogans against the police marched towards police complex Kotli to press fortheir demands.

Pertinently, the Internet services were snapped and curfewimposed on May 16 after the killing of Naeem Ahmed Shah of Mohalla Qillatriggered violent protest and clashes between two communities.
