Ramban students protest 'unavailability' of public transport

The students of Ramban staged a protest here on Saturday against the “unavailability” of public transport during the morning and evening hours.

The students assembled on the Jammu-Srinagar highway at Chanderkote and blocked it.

They alleged, “There is an unholy nexus between the local transporters and the transport department. The cheap means of transport, which is the most suitable for us, is not being allowed to ply during the peak hours (morning and evening). We are forced to board magic autos and Tata Sumos, who always indulge in overcharging.”

They demanded that the fares need to be fixed to avoid overcharging and that public transport needs to ply during the peak hours, to ensure that they are not forced to be fleeced.

Later, station house officer, Chnaderkote, and local executive magistrate reached the spot and pacified the protesters, by assuring them that public transport will be made available at peak hours, starting Sunday.
