Residents of Ramban town today expressed resentment against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for depriving them of water supply. They also threatened to launch an aggressive agitation, if hassle free supply not restored soon.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, score of residents maintained that they have been reeling under water scarcity since past one week, but despite repetitive requests no relief has been provided by the concerned department.
As per reports, the water-scarcity hit areas in old Ramban Town included Parnote, Maitra, Seri Sunyari and Khowbagh.
Residents alleged that no efforts have been made by the PHE department to restore drinking water supply to the town, thus forcing residents of take filthy water from streams.
Zubeer Ahmed, a local resident said that they hardly see water in taps. "I have been in this place since my birth upto this date I witness dry taps in the area, courtesy PHE department, which never bothered to know condition of their jurisdiction," said Zubeer, adding its been a regular problem for residents here to face water scarcity.
He further said that due to shortage of water in the area, people are usually seen carrying empty buckets and other utensils to fetch water from Nullahs.
The people also urged upon the District administration and concerned department to immediately restore water supply in the area.
