Rifle snatching: Searches continue in Kishtwar for 2nd day

A policeman whose service rifle was snatched by unidentified men in Kishtwar town on Friday was suspended from service today even as a massive search operation continued for the second day.

Contingents of police, CRPF and army launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) across the entire town late Friday night. They conducted house-to-house searches and checked vehicles at several places. The CASO was still in progress till last reports came in.

The cordon-and-search-operation was only the second one in the past 15 years as CASO returned to Kishtwar area, spreading waves of panic.

“Daleep Kumar, personal security officer posted with deputy commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana, was placed under suspension on Saturday. He is being questioned at the moment,” IGP Jammu, M K Sinha, told Greater Kashmir.

DC Kishtwar said, “The masked men threatened Daleep of dire consequences. They held him and his son hostage at gunpoint and took away the service rifle which Daleep had kept locked inside the cupboard.”
