Sarpanchs stage protest against DDC Kishtwar

A large number of sarpanchs and panchayat representatives held a demonstration against district development commissioner, Kishtwar, for allegedly “misbehaving” with a sarpanch of Lopara panchayat on Thursday.

Reports said, “A deputation from Dachhan village, led bysarpanch Babu Lal Bhandari, called on the district developmental commissioner(DDC) Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana at about 1:15 pm on Thursday.

   

While talking to Greater Kashmir, Bhandari alleged, “We putup our demands in front of the DDC. While we were apprising him (DDC), he stoodup and locked the door. Then he called his personal security officers (PSOs)and asked them to beat me up. At one point, the DDC even asked one of his PSOsto shoot me.”

Soon after the meeting ended, a large number of sarpanchsand representatives of several panchayats assembled in the premises of DCoffice complex and raised slogans against the DDC. They also demanded the DDCto be transferred at an earliest. Later, the protesters marched towards DakBungalow, where they staged a sit-in and threatened to boycott the forthcomingLok Sabha polls, if the DDC is not transferred.

On being contacted, the DDC told Greater Kashmir: “Today(Thursday), a deputation comprising of 10-12 people from Kriapaknoo village ofDachhan called on me while I was about to leave towards the court room toreview pendency of cases. The deputation, led by Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh ofChanjer Marwah and Babu Lal of Lopara A, entered my office and started speakingin a loud and unwarranted manner.”

The DDC added, “They abruptly interrupted and raised theirarms. They claimed that the district administration is misleading themregarding compensation. I had already asked them to furnish details of bankaccounts, so that the money is directly transferred into their accounts, butthey did not do so. Instead, they came into my office and misbehaved with me.”

Meanwhile, Rana initiated legal proceedings against Babu Laland Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh for allegedly causing interruption and insult. “Thelanguage and unwarranted behavior of Babu Lal and Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh hascaused interruption and insult, resulting into committing of offense undersection 228 of RPC. Besides, to restore the confidence of the general public inthe administration of justice and to maintain the dignity and decorum of thecourt, a proceeding has been set up in motion under section 480 CrPc againstthem,” he said.
