‘Single lane opening of Mughal Road by April end’

Amid ongoing snow clearance work on Mughal Road, authorities are expecting the single lane traffic restoration on the road by end of this month.

However, locals of the area demanded expediting the snowclearance work on the road to ensure restoration of traffic at the earliest.

   

Sarpanch Marha Khalid Mughal told Greater Kashmir that asingle small tunnel on the road can make it all weather road which will provehighly beneficial for all but delay in the same is unfortunate.

Sarpanch from Bufliyaz, Amjad Khan said that a number ofpeople from Rajouri and Poonch are availing for themselves the treatment inhospitals of Srinagar and there is need to restore the traffic on the road toease the public movement to valley.

Official sources said that snow clearance operation onMughal Road has reached up to 39-km point on Mughal Road. “The main snowaffected portion where there is heavy accumulation of snow, has now been takenup for clearance,” they said.

They said the snow cutters, the JCBs and other snowclearance machinery are being used presently on the road.

Junior engineer, Mughal Road project, Sarfaraz Ahmed saidthe snow clearance operation is going on at full pace and entire machinery ofthe department is on job.

Executive engineer of the project, Tarseem Thapa said thesnow clearance operation remained suspended for ten days due to protest bycontactors demanding pending dues on account of works executed under SDRFduring 2014 floods.

He informed that after the intervention of DDC Poonch RahulYadav, work of snow clearance got resumed and is going on at full pace now.

He said the single lane traffic on the road will getrestored by 30 April.
