Students study under open sky in Mendhar school

More than forty students studying in Government Primary School Kalla Karmari in Sangiote village of Mendhar sub division have to face hardships on a daily basis as the department has failed to reconstruct the building of school that got damaged in 2014 flash floods.

The school under the name Government Middle School Kalla Karmari of Sangiote village of Balakote tehsil in Mendhar sub division was established in 2005 and a two room building was constructed for the school.

Presently there are forty two students enrolled in the school while two teachers are posted in it.

“In 2014 floods, a part of land near the school suffered a slide by which the school building collapsed making the school building less.” said Zubair Ahmed, a local resident of village.

He said that presently all the students of the school study under open sky with no classroom avail and lone room taken from a house owner in the vicinity is being used as a store room to save school infrastructure.

“Isn’t it an irony that a school is buildingless from last seven years and no efforts have been made to reconstruct the building even after all the officers in the administration are well aware about the plight of students and staff.” said Zubair adding that in the days of rain, school staff is left with no other option than to call off the school.

When contacted Deputy Chief Education Officer Mendhar Lal Hussain, he said that a team headed by Principal rank officer will be deputed to the spot tomorrow for spot verification after which a report will be sent to higher authorities.
