Forest officials on Wednesday foiled a timber smuggling bid in Kellar forest range here and arrested two smugglers.
An official said official of Forest Division (FD) Bhadarwah along with Forest Protection Force (FPF) on Wednesday received a tip off that some people were trying cutting trees in Kellar range.
The officials launched a joint search operation in forest area of Bhalla (Compartment No 12/K) in the Kellar range. The official said during the operation the team nabbed three smugglers red-handed who were illegally cutting trees.
DFO Bhadarwah, ChnaderShekhar said the accused were nabbed on the spot. However, while they were being taken to nearby police chowki, one of them, taking advantage of darkness, managed to flee, the DFO said. “The other two were handed over to police.”
He said it was a matter of great concern that when the entire world was fighting against COVID19 pandemic and people were locked up in their houses, few unscrupulous elements were still active in damaging green gold.
