Timber smuggling bid foiled in Kellar, 2 arrested

Forest officials on Wednesday foiled a timber smuggling bid in Kellar forest range here and arrested two smugglers.

An official said official of Forest Division (FD) Bhadarwahalong with Forest Protection Force (FPF) on Wednesday received a tip off thatsome people were trying cutting trees in Kellar range.

   

The officials launched a joint search operation in forestarea of Bhalla (Compartment No 12/K) in the Kellar range. The official saidduring the operation the team nabbed three smugglers red-handed who wereillegally cutting trees.

DFO Bhadarwah, ChnaderShekhar said the accused were nabbedon the spot. However, while they were being taken to nearby police chowki, oneof them, taking advantage of darkness, managed to flee, the DFO said. “Theother two were handed over to police.”

He said it was a matter of great concern that when theentire world was fighting against COVID19 pandemic and people were locked up intheir houses, few unscrupulous elements were still active in damaging greengold.
