Traffic jam inflicts heavy losses on traders associated with honey bee

Some people of Tehsil Banihal alleged that they suffered heavy losses due to traffic jam between Battery Chama and Banihal as the honey bees they were carrying in the boxes with beehives died.

Honey bees died en route while the beehives in boxes were being carried in trucks which got stuck in traffic jam.

The traders said that they were transporting boxes with beehives through trucks from plains of Jammu province towards seasonally moderate areas of Banihal.

They said, “As we reached near Battery Chasma on Thursday morning, the highway was blocked due to landslide at Ganroo and remained closed for several hours”.

The highway was cleared but there was long traffic jam between Ramsu and Banihal and the trucks carrying beehives got stuck for hours resulting in death of honey bees due to scorching heat, the traders said.

They complained that they suffered heavy losses as it was their only source of income.

The traders appealed to the concerned minister and divisional administration Jammu for taking up the issue with the state government so that they are compensated.
