Traffic jams at Maitra make people suffer

Old alignment of Srinagar-Jammu highway near Gool crossing at Maitra town has become a nuisance for the residents of Ramban town in Chenab Valley as the traffic jams at this point have become an order of the day.

Residents told Greater Kashmir that a single lane bridge at Maitra is used by the administrative officers’ heads of departments and officers of army and GREF while the locals have been left in lurch.

   

People who visit various government offices District administrative complex located at Maitra Ramban have to wait for hours together at this point.

People alleged that it is shame on the part of administration as it has failed to convert this bridge into double lane since last more than two decades.

They complained that sitting MLA of ruling party and ex-MLA are also residing in close vicinity of culvert/bridge  but till date they have not paid any heed towards this burning issue.  

Commuters who visit district administrative complex remain stuck in traffic jam for hours together. 

When Greater Kashmir contacted GREF authorities stationed at Ramban they claimed that as the highway has been handed over to National Highway Authority of India the road alignment has become essential part of the link road from Bowali Bazar Ramban to District Complex Maitra it is now falling under the preview of PWD and GREF has no role to play in this regard,  GREF officials said.
