Several programmes were held across Pir Panchal region and Chenab Valley on Wednesday to pay tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 113th birth anniversary.
The district unit of National Conference remembered Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and organized a number of programmes to commemorate his birth anniversary.
At Rajouri district headquarter, a programme was organized in the conference hall of Dak Bungalow, during which district body leaders of the party paid tributes to the leader.
Another programme was organized at Thannamandi, wherein NC leaders, including Mushtaq Ahmed Shawl, Mohammad Gafoor Dar, Noor Hussain, Aftab Mir, Shamim Ahmed Mughal, Abdul Hamid Dar, Mohammad HanifKamlak, Mohammad IshaqThakar, FerozWani, Abdul Haq and Abdul Rashid Naik participated.
During the functions held across the district, the speakers termed Sheikh Abdullah as a political stalwart, who set a tempo for the development of Jammu and Kashmir state.
The district unit of National Conference, under the leadership of Youth NC provincial president Ajaz Jan, organized a programme at the district headquarter to pay tributes to Sheikh Abdullah. Speaking on the occasion, Jan said, “Sheikh Abdullah was not only a leader of National Conference, but a political stalwart for the entire state. During his tenure, he opened new horizons of development and initiated several reforms.
Member Legislative Council DrShenazGanai, while speaking during another programme held here, said, “Sheikh Abdullah is popularly known as the Sher-e-Kashmir, because of what he did for the state. He brought in several reforms, laying special emphasis on women empowerment. He was a charismatic leader and social reformer, who fought for the rights of the oppressed sections of the society, irrespective of creed, caste or religion.”
National Conference leaders paid tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Abdullah on his 113th birth anniversary, here on Wednesday and took a pledge to stand guard against communal polarization and the alarming growth of hate politics.
The leaders organized a function, wherein provincial secretary Sheikh Mohammad Shafi was the chief guest, while block president Bhaderwah Abdul QayoomBagwan presided over it.
“Isolating communal forces and strengthening the bonds of amity and brotherhood will be the biggest tributes to Baba-e-Quom, who strived for harmony among different segments of society and unity between the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir state,” Shafi said, while paying homage to Sheikh Abdullah.
Maqbool Ahmed, Masood Hussain, Amjad Mir, Fateh Ali Shah, Kamlesha Devi, Azhar Ali, Mohammad Anees, Jagdish Raj, Sher Chand, BalKrishan and Vijay Manhas were also present on the occasion.
Senior National Conference leader and former minister Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, saying his secular and progressive outlook will continue to be a source of inspiration for generations.
Speaking at a function held here to pay homage to Baba-e-Quom, Kichloo said, “Sheikh Abdullah is one of the tallest leaders of the state, since the era of Mahatma Gandhi and Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan. His legacy denotes the state’s high traits of pluralistic ethos and inclusiveness. He nurtured and strengthened this characteristic and strengthened the bonds of love between various sections of the society and different regions of the State.”
Tanveer Ahmed Kichloo, Abdul Majeed Shah, Farooq Ahmad, Mohammad Ramzan, Sajjad Ahmed, ZakirBazdar and others also paid rich homage to Sher-e-Kashmir during the function. They also pledged to work for unity and amity across the state.

National Conference on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, during a function held here at Tourist Hostel premises in Banihal town.
Hundreds of party workers participated in special prayers and fatehkhawani for the late leader.
Later, in a meeting, district president National Conference SajjadSaheen, other leaders and activists highlighted Sheikh Abdullah’s contribution and sacrifices.
While speaking on the occasion, Shaheen said, “Sher-e-Kashmir’s struggles for the dignity of his people provide a guiding light for not just the party, but the people of Jammu and Kashmir. In his legacy, we find answers to many challenges that we face today.”
“Sher-e-Kashmir continues to inspire us to be united against divisive forces, who are hell-bent on dividing us on the basis of religion, region and language,” he added.
Other speakers also highlighted Sheikh Abdullah’s contribution towards single line administration, free education and other welfare measures in the state. Mirwaiz Atta Mohammad Katoch, Mohammad Afzal Wani, Saifud Din Dar, Mohammad SadiqNaik, Mohammad Afzal Khan, Haji Abdul Ahad Shan, Riyaz Ahmed Mir, Mohammad Khalil, SohailNisar, Ahmed Sohail, GulamRasool Deng, Mohammad Ashraf Naik and many others were present on the occasion.
