Wildlife officials capture leopard in Doda

Wildlife officials Wednesday captured a leopard that strayed close to village Beoli of district Doda. Today’s was third such catch in the district in two days.

Acting swiftly on an information about the wild animal straying near residential area, officials of Wildlife department caught the leopard in the village early morning.

   

Wildlife Warden Chenab-Kishtwar, Majid Bashir, said that they have been receiving complaints from the local residents about the presence of leopard in the village for some time.

“The animal who reportedly attacked and killed several cattle of the villagers was on a prowl for the last 10 days, it was finally trapped in a cage early morning,” Majid Bashir said. “The captured leopard has been sent to Kishtwar, where from it will be sent to Manda Zoo in Jammu,” the officer said, adding that this was third such catch in a year.

After the recent heavy snowfall in higher reaches of district Doda, wild animals especially leopards have entered in several habitations, triggering fear among the villagers.
