Woman dies as landslide hits house in Doda

An 82-year old woman died and her son was seriously injured by a landslide that hit their mud house in Doda district Saturday even as 25 cattle of the family were also killed in the incident, officials said.

The incident occurred in Baggar area, Ravinder Pal Singh, SP Operations Doda said.

According to sources, due to continuous rains since Thursday, a huge landslide hit the house of Isher Dass today at 6 AM, burying the entire structure and inmates sleeping inside under the heap of mud and debris.

Singh said that after receiving information from locals, a police team immediately reached the spot and started rescue operation along with locals.

“After 2 hours of hectic efforts, the woman and her son were retrieved and shifted to District Hospital Doda, where doctors declared mother as brought dead, while her son is undergoing treatment,” he said, adding that dozens of cattle were also killed in the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Ashru Devi wife of Sant Ram of Ramgarh (Bagger) Assar; the injured as Ishar Dass.
