Middle aged woman who got off from a vehicle to quench her thirst was crushed to death by a speedy truck near Wagan area of Banihal on Jammu Srinagar Highway today.
Police identified the deceased as Zaina Begum, 60, wife ofAbdullah Pachoo of Ahma Trigam in Khari Ramban.
Police said Zaina Begum was travelling in a Tata Sumo fromBanihal towards Khari. On reaching Wagan she requested driver to stop vehicleas she wanted to drink water. Driver stopped the vehicle. When she got off, aspeedy truck on way to Jammu from Srinagar hit her resulting in her death.
Driver of the truck fled from the spot by abandoning hisvehicle on the road.
The body of the woman was shifted to Sub District HospitalBanihal for conducting legal medico formalities.
DSP Banihal Sajad Sarwar told Greater Kashmir that a hunthas been launched by the police to nab the absconding driver.
