Woman slips from hillock, dies

A middle-aged woman Sunday slipped to death from a hillock at Hadel area of Gandoh-Bhallesa in Doda.

A police officer said, “50-year-old Haleema Begum, wife ofGhulam Hussain, was collecting fodder for cattle when she slipped and fell downa 35-feet deep gorge.”

   

“On getting information, the police and locals rushedto the spot and shifted the woman to sub-district hospital, Gandoh, where thedoctors pronounced her as brought dead,” Raj Singh Gouria, SP Bhaderwah,said.

“The body of deceased has been handed over to thefamily for last rites after completing all legal formalities,” the SPsaid, adding that according to preliminary reports and confirmation from localnambardar, the incident is an accident as the deceased had gone to collectfodder for cattle.

“There is no need for an investigation,” he said.

Pertinently, the people, who live on the hilly slopes ofChenab Valley, are traditionally cattle farmers and they collect grass from thesteep slopes which they use as fodder for their cattle during winters. Everyyear, several people die and scores of them get seriously injured as they risktheir lives to collect fodder from very steep and slippery hills.
