BJP leaders stage protest

Several leaders and activists of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday staged protest at Press Enclave here demanding security cover for its workers in Kashmir.

The protest by BJP was held four days after one of itsleaders was killed by unidentified gunmen in South Kashmir.

   

Scores of BJP workers assembled at Press Enclave demandingsecurity cover for their workers. The protests were led by BJP state generalsecretary Ashok Kaul.  As a mark ofprotest, Kaul surrendered his security and left the Press Enclave afterprotests in an autorickhaw.

Earlier Kaul told reporters that “I will also not take anysecurity till protection is not provided to other political workers as well.

“A formal letter has also been sent to the AdditionalDirector General of Police Security Wing Kashmir in which we have demanded thattill full proof security is not provided to the BJP workers, i will surrenderthe security cover,” he said.

“I had personally approached senior police officers inurging them not to withdraw  security ofBJP worker Gul Muhammad Mir,” he said.

To mention, unidentified gunmen shot dead BJP leader GulMuhammad Mir on Saturday evening in Anantnag’s Nowgam area. BJP leaders claimedthat Mir’s security was withdrawn a few weeks ago. Mir, who was BJP’s vicedistrict president of Anantnag district, had unsuccessfully contested Assemblyelections for Dooru assembly segment in 2008 and 2014.

Governor Satya Pal Malik has already ordered an enquiry intokillings of various political leaders in the past few months and assured themprotection

Government has directed Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam toconduct the enquiry and asked for identifying any lapses on part of securityagencies.
