Restrictions on entry of vehicles in KU campus to continue

Authorities at Kashmir University (KU) have decided to continue with restriction on entry of vehicles in the campus.

The order for parking of vehicles at designated places wasissued in view of the visit of National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC) to the varsity. The visit concluded on Saturday.

   

However, the administration has now decided to continue thepractice in a bid to make the campus a vehicle-free zone.

A fresh order issued by registrar KU, Nisar Ahmad Mir,stated that no vehicle should be parked at any locations other than designatedparking places.

The administration has designated parking places at Sir Syedgate, Convocation Complex, Rumi gate and Zainul Abidin gate.

“The VVIP gate near convocation complex shall remain open tofacilitate entry and exit of staff vehicles, parked near the complex,” theorder reads.

The administration has further decided to operate bicyclesand batteries-operated vehicles within the campus which will be ferryingstudents, staff and visitors to respective destinations.

Earlier, the Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA)had written to the vice chancellor (VC) and sought that the restriction shouldbe continued in view of the support extended by majority of faculty members.

The executive committee members of KUTA also convened ameeting with Chief Proctor, resolving that restrictions on vehicle movementmust continue.

The varsity administration has however been asked to ensuresmooth and hassle free implementation of this the order besides makingeco-friendly transport facilities available to the varsity staff.

KUTA has demanded that designation of parking slots nearconvocation complex should be exclusively for the University staff and ahelpline or control room should be set up for making instant transit facilityavailable to teachers by the Chief Proctor’s office. It has agreed to contribute bicycles orelectrically operated vehicles for the benefit of teachers. “Green campuscampaign was launched by us in November 2017 and restricting parking ofvehicles was a part of the campaign. There might be some difficulties but wehope we will overcome those pangs with the passage of time,” said presidentKUTA, Prof Muheet.
