Absence of administration

We are living with this reality that there is no connection between common people and the administration. The top line administration that is supposed to be involved in planning, decision-making, organizing, and forecasting, is absolutely alien to the ground realities. Ironically, sitting behind the huge desks majority of the bureaucrats belonging to the elite services don’t even know the state well. Moreover, the middle rung officers and functionaries that are supposed to be an interface between the government and the people are recognized for their lackadaisical and apathetic attitude towards the problems of the people. For past two decades, corruption has become new normal. It is also a known fact that the state has been legalizing the illegal by giving the most coveted postings to the most corrupt. For these reasons the administration has time and again failed to address even some of the mundane problems like ensuring quality control and maintaining prices of good as vegetables. Festive occasions like Eid provide an opportunity to the administration to infuse new life in the administration, connect to common people in ensuring quality and price control. These occasions also provid the government an opportunity to win confidence of the people and create a congenial political atmosphere in the state by releasing political prisoners detained under as harsh rules as the Defence of India Rules (DIR) or the Preventive Detention Act (PDA). For creating a conducive atmosphere for genuine political atmosphere, it was an appropriate time for the governor administration to take the call and release the political prisoners in various jails in and outside the state. Moreover, gear up the administration. Some days back, the Department of Food Public Distribution, and Consumers supposed to ensure market prices issued an elaborate price list for sale of sacrificial animals – sheep and goat. For lack of market checking by the administration, the price list was sent to trashcan by the animal traders, and they fixed their own prices; same holds true about the price of other eatables. There is no checking the quality of confectionary and bakery products sold in the market. Instead of checking the quality of food sold on the festive occasion, employees of various agencies visit the market for collecting their cut euphemistically called Eid gift. The top rank officers in the government need to wake up and make the administration work.
