With a sense of disgust

Our world has come a long way in fighting the dangers to human life. It was not long ago that people in thousands would die in any locality because of the outbreak of a disease. Most such diseases have been now almost eliminated. The spectacular growth in medical sciences has made life more safe and sound. Another major reason for large scale deaths was war between states. The militaries, in a direct clash, would destroy entire cities, and in a matter of minutes thousands of people would be wiped out. Thanks to some ground breaking ideas in politics, and emergence of transnational institutions, inter state wars have been almost turned into the tales of past. But the scourge that humans still face is the proliferation of violent conflict around the globe. This has involved not only small groups, but the major institutions of one or the other state. This world of ours is rife with such violent contests that have destroyed the peace of the world. Although global leaders keep saying that we should solve conflicts through peaceful means, little is done in terms of practice. Although announcements, and declaration are made to express the resolve to solve such issues through negotiations, but on the ground the situation is on the contrary. Violence is being fanned in different ways, negations on contested matters are being torpedoed, the relations between the contesting parties are spoiled in the name of one thing or another. This has made our world dangerous to live in. The only way to make peace a reality is to prefer human welfare over statist manoeuvring. Finally what matters is the life of people, and everything is subservient to that. If that life is endangered, there is no crime bigger than that. In our region also, there are many a conflict that need a saner approach if at all we wish to resolve them. The bombastic rhetoric woven around different positions on these conflicts by different parties is of no use. Hearing that rhetoric is to deepen one’s disgust.
