Friday Focus | Unbreakable Rope of Rescue

Allah (SwT) stretches the unbreakable rope of rescue forpeople struggling in deep waters, as the simile holds, so that they hold fastto it together and that adds to their chance of rescue, the Holy Verse holdsthe promise:

”And hold fast all together, by the Rope which Allah(stretches out for you) and be not divided among yourselves; and remember withgratitude Allah’s favour on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your heartsin love, so that by His Grace, ye become brethren; and ye were on the brink ofPit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear toyou: that ye may be guided” (4:103)

The reference in the Holy Verse is to the people of Yathrib, who were on the verge of being consumed by the blood feud raging between twotribes. The feud was being perpetually fuelled by Jewish tribes in the suburbsof Yathrib, so that they could enhance their economic stranglehold. Thesubversive strategy worked until people of Yathrib approached Holy Prophet(pbuh) and appealed to him to visit their city, so as to settle terms of peace.

As Providence would have it, their hearts were joined inlove, and by Allah (SwT)’s Grace they became brothers, as they held together stronglyto the rope that Allah (SwT) had stretched for them. The blood feud ended asYathrib became Madinat-ul-Nabi (pbuh) the city of Prophet (A.S). The citybecame the epicentre of emerging Islamic republic. Allah (SwT)’s promise holds,as He makes His signs clear for providing guidance to the people in need of it.Yathribbecoming Madinat-ul-Nabi (pbuh) remains a marvel of history, symbolizing DivineGuidance for people torn by conflict, who combined to write a golden chapter ofhistory.
