10 deaths, 564 new cases in JK

J&K saw 10 more COVID19 deaths even as 564 people were confirmed to be infected with the viral illness today. While the death toll reached 494, the cumulative number of positive cases reached 25931.

Eight people died of COVID19 in Kashmir division in the last 24 hours. The deceased included a 45 year old woman from Halmatpora Kupwara who had been admitted at SKIMS Soura on 5 August with bilateral pneumonia.

   

A 45-year-old man from Kralgund Kupwara died at SMHS Hospital. The patient

was a diabetic. A 41 year old woman from Padshahibagh Srinagar died at SKIMS Soura. She was suffering from chronic kidney disease and had undergone kidney transplant.

In the recent past, a number of young people have succumbed to COVID19.

An official in health department said most of these young people have no co-morbid condition but succumbed due to the viral infection. “It is a virus whose behaviour is least understood. It has killed otherwise healthy and young individuals although most of the victims have been elderly,” he said.

A Srinagar resident, 65 year old male, from Rajbagh area also died today. The patient was admitted at SMHS Hospital with bilateral pneumonia on 30 July, a doctor said.

Another 65 year old woman from Mirgund Pattan in Baramulla district died late Monday night at SMHS Hospital. Another 65 year old woman from Larkipora Anantnag died at Chest Diseases Hospital. Both the patients were admitted with pneumonia. Another patient died at Chest Diseases Hospital, a 70 year old male resident from Bijbehara Anantnag. He was admitted with sepsis.

Another 70 year old female from Ganderbal district admitted at SKIMS Soura died today. This patient, he said, was hypertensive and had bilateral pneumonia.

Two people were reported to have died in Jammu division, information bulletin on COVID19 by J&K Government said.

Meanwhile 564 patients tested positive, 431 of them in Kashmir division.

In Srinagar, after many days, the number of positives was less than 100. 90 people tested positive in the Capital city today, over 15 of them from various security camps, a health official said. The district also had 10 positives among the people who had arrived from outside. Some of these were non-locals, the official said.

The total number of confirmed cases in Srinagar district reached 6350, of which 3897 have recovered. Currently, 2296 patients from the district are undergoing isolation and treatment.

In Bandipora, 10 labourers and nearly the same number of defence personnel tested positive, a health official from the district said. The total number of cases reported from the district today was 67.

Baramulla had 53 new cases. These cases included over 20 people who were symptomatic and had been tested with Rapid Antigen Test kits, a health official said.

In other districts, the cases reported today were: Pulwama 37, Kulgam 23, Shopian 2, Anantnag 42, Budgam 39, Kupwara 33, Ganderbal 45.

The total number of travelers that tested positive in Kashmir division was 29. In Jammu division, 59 travelers tested positive, out of the 133 total cases.

The number of recovered patients reached 17979, with 604 people who recovered today.
