As many as 11 people who had tested positive for Covid19 lost life to the viral infection in the past 24 hours in J&K, while 534 new cases came to fore, taking the total to 28,021. The death toll has reached 535 in J&K.
A young woman who had given birth through cesarean section and had developed complications following the procedure died at SMHS Hospital today. She was 25-year old and was from Sopore, Baramulla. She had pregnancy induced hypertension, a doctor at the hospital said. He said the patient was admitted on 14 August to the hospital’s ICU in critical condition. “But she had sepsis and could not make it,” he said.
She is the fourth woman to die of COVID19 following pregnancy. In the past one week, two women have died of COVID19 following their delivery.
In addition, four people died at SKIMS Soura due to COVID19. These include a 30 year old woman from Dangerpora Bandipora. A doctor at the hospital said the patient was on one kidney only and was hypertensive. She had been admitted with bilateral pneumonia and respiratory failure. In addition, a 65 year old from Hajin Bandipora, a 55 year old woman from Tengpora Ganderbal and a 45 year old woman from Hayatpora Chadoora also lost life at the Institute.
The respiratory virus has consumed approximately 490 lives in Kashmir. Among other casualties was a 78 year old woman from Shalteng Srinagar who died at SKIMS Medical College Hospital Bemina, a 54 year old woman from Harwan Srinagar who lost life at Chest Diseases Hospital and a 70 year old woman from Kralpora Kupwara who was admitted at SMHS Hospital. A 65 year old from Tulbagh Pampore in Pulwama district also passed away at this hospital.
Two people were reported to have died in Jammu division as per information bulletin issued by J&K Government.
The number of recovered cases crossed 20,000 today with the discharge of 734 patients, who tested negative following treatment. Incidentally, the number of active cases also fell below 7000 after three weeks and reached 6818.
Among the cases reported today, 424 were from the Kashmir division. These, a health official said, included over 70 defense personnel. In addition, over 100 people who were symptomatic and were tested upon advice of doctors were found infected. Over 120 contacts of known cases also tested positive today. 21 of the cases in Kashmir were travelers.
Among the randomly tested samples, about 30 tested positive today, the official said. Plus, 10 randomly tested service providers were also found infected. Random samples are taken from red zones and containment zones, the official said.
In Srinagar, 110 people tested positive today, while 81 samples were found positive in Bandipora. The number of cases in other districts were: Baramulla 36, Pulwama 13, Budgam 40, Anantnag 39, Kulgam 10, Shopian 11, Kupwara 39, Ganderbal 44.
In Jammu division, 108 cases were found positive today. These included 45 travelers.
