As many as 16 PSA detainees and five convicts were released from Central Jail Srinagar on Monday.
“We revoked the detention orders of 16 persons and orderedtheir immediate release,” J&K Home Department officials told GreaterKashmir on Monday, adding that five other convicts were also released from theCentral Jail. “They were set free on parole after their cases were scrutinisedby the high-powered committee,” officials said.
Sources in Prison Department also confirmed release of 16PSA detainees and five convicts.
The officials informed that there were 110 PSA detainees inSrinagar Central Jail. “With the release of 16 now 94 are still detainedthere,” they said.
Earlier, 51 persons during the past two weeks were releasedfrom different jails after their PSA orders were revoked by Home Department.The officials have said more releases are on cards.
The step has been taken to decongest jails in J&K in thewake of outbreak of deadly covid19.
