As many as 16 PSA detainees and five convicts were released from Central Jail Srinagar on Monday.
“We revoked the detention orders of 16 persons and ordered their immediate release,” J&K Home Department officials told Greater Kashmir on Monday, adding that five other convicts were also released from the Central Jail. “They were set free on parole after their cases were scrutinised by the high-powered committee,” officials said.
Sources in Prison Department also confirmed release of 16 PSA detainees and five convicts.
The officials informed that there were 110 PSA detainees in Srinagar Central Jail. “With the release of 16 now 94 are still detained there,” they said.
Earlier, 51 persons during the past two weeks were released from different jails after their PSA orders were revoked by Home Department. The officials have said more releases are on cards.
The step has been taken to decongest jails in J&K in the wake of outbreak of deadly covid19.
