2 militants killed in Shopian encounter

Two Lashkar-i-Toiba militants were killed in an encounter in Khawjipora-Reban village of this South Kashmir district on Monday.

A police official said that acting on a specific information, police, army’s 1 RR and 178 Battalion CRPF laid siege around the area at midnight.

“As the security forces zeroed in towards the house where the militants had taken shelter, the militants resorted to firing and tried to break the cordon,” he said.

The police official said the fire was returned, triggering an encounter. “After some time the guns fell silent and searches were launched. Bodies of two militants were recovered,” he said.
