2 militants killed in Shopian encounter

Two Lashkar-i-Toiba militants were killed in an encounter in Khawjipora-Reban village of this South Kashmir district on Monday.

A police official said that acting on a specificinformation, police, army’s 1 RR and 178 Battalion CRPF laid siege around thearea at midnight.

   

“As the security forces zeroed in towards the house wherethe militants had taken shelter, the militants resorted to firing and tried tobreak the cordon,” he said.

The police official said the fire was returned, triggeringan encounter. “After some time the guns fell silent and searches were launched.Bodies of two militants were recovered,” he said.

The slain militants were identified as Shabir Ahmad Malik@Abu Maviya resident of YariporaKulgam and Amir Ahmad Dar of MelhouraShopian.

Police said Malik was active since December 2017 and Darsince 2019. In a statement, police said the two were involved in various militancycases in south Kashmir.
