Two PDP workers shot at in Shopian

Unknown gunmen shot at and injured two Peoples Democratic Party activists here in south Kashmir on Wednesday.

A police official told Greater Kashmir that the gunmenwalked into two local pharmacies in Zainapora area of the district and abductedtheir owners Irfan Hameed and Muzaffar Ahmad.

   

They were taken to Reban hamlet, some 2 kilometres from thevillage, where the gunmen fired at their legs, the official said and added theduo was taken to the sub-district hospital Zainapora. 

A health official at the facility said that both the injuredwere sent to the district hospital Anantnag given the grave nature of theirinjuries.

“Later Irfan was referred to the SKIMS, Soura as a bullethad grazed his vein,” a local resident told Greater Kashmir over telephone.

Both Ahmad and Hameed are the active members of PDP.

Soon after the incident, former Chief Minister and partypresident Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and condemned the attack.

“Condemn the dastardly act on PDP workers in Shopian.My heart goes out to these two brave hearts and I pray for theirrecovery….” Mufti tweeted.

Immediately after the incident, security forces cordoned offthe area and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers, the police official said.

Meanwhile, senior PDP leader Sartaj Madani visited Anantnaghospital to enquire about the well being of the injured workers.
