20 deaths, 1492 test positive in J&K

Twenty people died of covid19 and 1492 new cases were confirmed today in J&K even as the UT recorded its highest single day recovery with nearly a thousand patients testing negative.

The percentage of recovered patients reached 64.3 percent in J&K. With 960 patients recovering on Saturday, the number of recovered patients reached 40265. Till date 62533 people have tested positive in J&K, including 1492 today.

   

Although the number of recoveries has been on a rise, a health official said that over the past two weeks, the sharp upward slant of cases has resulted in a high number of active cases.

As per information issued by J&K government, 8963 patients are currently active in Kashmir division and 12318 in Jammu division.

Even though many of these patients are currently under home isolation, he said, a majority is in hospitals putting a burden on the healthcare infrastructure. “They need beds, manpower, oxygen… and we have limited resources,” he said.

Meanwhile, J&K recorded 20 COVID19 deaths today. 14 of these took place in Jammu and 6 in Kashmir division. The death toll neared 1000 and reached 996.

Among the deaths that took place in Kashmir division, two were from Srinagar district. The death toll of the district reached 264 today. The deceased included a 40 year old male from Hawal Srinagar admitted at SMHS Hospital with COVID19 pneumonia in both lungs a doctor working at the hospital said. He said the patient had been admitted on 10 September. A 72 year old female from Nowgam admitted at SKIMS Soura also passed away today.

A 45 year old male from Baramulla admitted at SMHS Hospital with pneumonia expired today. Two patients lost lives at SKIMS Medical College Hospital today. These were a 67 year old female from Gurez Bandipora and a 52 year old male from the same district. A death was reported from GMC Anantnag as well. The casualty was of a 60 year old male from Larkipora Anantnag admitted on 17 September and passing away a day later.

Today, 831 cases were confirmed from Jammu while Kashmir saw 661 confirmations.

In Kashmir, 479 cases were confirmed using Rapid Antigen Tests.

Dr Qazi Haroon, OSD Directorate of Health Services Kashmir said 274794 RAT tests have been carried out till date in Kashmir division, of which 16304 have been found positive.

Among the districts, Srinagar, as has been the trend, had the highest number of cases. 192 cases were confirmed from the district today. The district, as per data issued by the Government, accounts for 32 percent cases in Kashmir division.

Kupwara district had 99 new cases and one of its highest increase in COVID19 tally today. The district has 937 active cases now.  A health official from the district said, more than 30 cases were from the same clan in Kenyal village in Kupwara. These new cases, he said, were contacts of a known case. Over 20 cases were reported from district police lines Handwara, the official said.

Today, 93 cases were reported from Ganderbal, Pulwama 71, Budgam 68, Anantnag 52, Bandipora 37, Baramulla 32, Kulgam 12, Shopian 5.

In Jammu, out of the 831 cases, 261 were reported from Jammu division. Doda district, which has been witnessing a rise in the number of positives over the past week, had 185 cases today.

The total cases in Jammu crossed 22000 mark today, 9545 of whom have recovered.
