20 years of Kargil war | President Kovind to join celebrations in Drass today

President Ram Nath Kovind will join the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations here on Friday.

According to an official source, the President, SupremeCommander of the armed forces, will arrive in Drass town in the morning to jointhe “victory celebrations” which have been organised to commemorate 20thanniversary of the Kargil war.

   

“Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, Chief of ArmyStaff General Bipin Rawat, Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa and theChief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh will receive the President on hisarrival,” the source added.

 “It is for the firsttime in 20 years that any President would be participating in victorycelebrations at Kargil war memorial in Drass. The three service chiefs arelikely to brief the audience over complexities of the operation,” the sourcesaid.

He said a ‘Victory Flame’ lit by Defence Minister RajnathSingh on 14 July at the National War Memorial in Delhi will be received by theArmy Chief in Drass on Friday. It will be merged with the eternal flame at theKargil war memorial.

The Defence Minister had visited Drass earlier this week topay tributes at Kargil war memorial.
