3 of family among 4 killed in Ramban accident

Four persons, including three of a family, died while two others sustained injuries when the SUV they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in this hilly district on Saturday, police said.

A police official said that six people were returning home from SarvadharYatra (in Pogal area) in a TaTa Sumo vehicle (JK14B-3832) when it met with an accident near Bijoni, some 5 kilometers from Ukhral, and fell into a 500-feet-deep gorge. The vehicle also hit a Katcha house but the occupants of the house escaped unhurt.

“In the accident, a couple, Surjeet Singh, 50, and Koshalia Devi of KotePogal village in Ukhral tehsil of Ramban district, died on the spot while their daughter Neelam Devi, 18, and a relative Anu Devi, 10, died on way to district hospital Ramban,” SSP Ramban, Anita Sharma told Greater Kashmir.

The police officer added that two of the severely injured passengers, Pawan Singh (driver of the SUV), 24, son of Surjeet Singh of PinglogaHochak, Ramban and Priya Devi, 13, daughter of Ashok Singh, were moved to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu where their condition is stated to be critical.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and taken up further investigation.
