The health department conducted over 33,000 rapid antigen tests in three days, of which 11,901 tests were conducted on Thursday alone.
J&K administration has decided to ramp up testing rate particularly in vulnerable clusters across Kashmir region. As part of this strategy the health department has doubled its testing capacity.
According to official details accessed by Greater Kashmir, the health department is conducting on an average 15,000 tests per day of which a major chunk of tests is done by using RAT kits.
During the last three days, Directorate of Health Services Kashmir has conducted 33,087 rapid antigen tests.
10638 RATs were conducted across Kashmir on Sep 8, 10548 on Sep 9 and 11901 on Sep 10. On September 10, out of 11,901 RATs conducted, 628 tested positive.
The highest number 3725 RATs were conducted in Srinagar, out of which 171 tested positive.
“Directorate of Health Services Kashmir is doing aggressive testing across Kashmir using rapid antigen tests which have helped in improving the testing rate significantly. We are being able to test more people as a result there is a spike in positive cases for the last week,” said Dr Qazi Haroon, OSD, Directorate of Health Services Kashmir.
Since the introduction of rapid antigen test kits in Kashmir by the health department, 171591 people have been tested using these kits, out of which 11,546 tested positive.
An antigen is a protein (in this case present on the virus) that induces an immune response in the body in the form of production of antibodies against a disease, and detecting its presence through an antigen-based test determines a present infection.
