434 new cases, total 29326

The COVID19 tally rose by 434 in J&K on Tuesday with the fresh reports, while the positive percentage continued to be high.

As per information issued by J&K Government, 8,11,167 COVID19 tests have been carried out in J&K till date. Out of these, 29326 samples have tested positive for the viral infection. The overall proportion of positives among the tests stood at 3.6 percent.

   

In the past 20 days, since July 30, 183780 tests have been carried out in J&K as per information bulletin issued by the Government. Out of these, 9457 samples have been reported as positive. The percentage of samples testing positive in the past 20 days has been 5.1 percent.

In the last week of July, the positive percentage stood at little over 4 percent in the UT.

J&K Government has started Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) to ramp up testing. From today, all passengers arriving at Srinagar International Airport were tested using RAT. In addition, RAT is also used at Lakhanpur entry point, a health official said.

The recoveries reached 21886 today with 590 more people getting discharged. Active cases stood at 6879.

Today 346 samples tested positive in Kashmir division, out of the 434 reported from J&K.

A health official said over 200 of these positives had been reported with RAT. He said RAT was used to test contacts and symptomatic cases, irrespective of their contact history. He said over 100 symptomatic cases were confirmed to be infected in Kashmir with RAT in the past 24 hours.

The test is a fast one and takes 15 minutes to half an hour to get results. However, an official said, the probabilities of false negatives in this method are high and all negatives must be reconfirmed to be negative using gold standard RT-PCR tests.

Among today’s positives in Kashmir, over 60 people were from defense and police establishments, the official said.

Today, 59 cases were reported from Bandipora district. Bandipora has the second highest number of active positive cases in J&K after Srinagar. In the past one week, 367 cases have been reported from this district, which seemed to have less burden of the pandemic for many months. The new cases have taken the cumulative total of cases in Bandipora to 1535.

The new cases of today, as per the district health officials, were mostly contacts from Shilwath, Markundal, Kehnoosa and Ajas areas.

In Srinagar, 66 cases were reported today, much lower than the trend of over 100 daily cases observed over the past many weeks. The new cases take the total reported positives from the city to 7026.

However, the number of active cases in Srinagar has dropped to 1396 today, from 2296 on 11 August.

The cases from other districts were: Baramulla 37, Pulwama 27, Budgam 6, Anantnag 42,  Kulgam 16, Shopian 3, Kupwara 66, Ganderbal 24.

In Jammu division, out of the 88 cases today, 18 were travelers returning from outside. Jammu district had 28 cases today.
