482 test positive; J&K tally 26413

Among the samples reported on Wednesday in J&K, 482 tested positive for COVID19 , official data reavealed.

Out of today’s cases, 376 were from Kashmir division, while 106 were from Jammu division. The number of recovered cases reached 18523 with 544 recoveries today. Currently, 7392 COVID19 positive people are admitted or in isolation.

   

A health official said that in Kashmir the new cases included over 30 samples that had been taken from various red zones across 10 districts. He said the samples had been taken randomly to assess the spread of COVID19 in these areas.

As many as 20 pregnant women, who are tested mandatorily when the expected date of delivery approaches, tested positive, he said. The official said that 12 service providers, pharmacists, bakers, milkmen etc, also tested positive today. In addition, he said, about 100 people were those who had been tested because of the symptom of COVID19, either after a doctor’s advice or after self-reporting.

The official said 255 people were found infected after their samples were tested using rapid antigen tests. These tests, he said, were carried out on symptomatic individuals and travelers mostly.

A majority of cases today were contacts of known cases, constituting over 30 percent, the official said. He said 15 healthcare workers, including 8 doctors were found infected with novel coronavirus while 35 police and security were also found positive.

Among the districts, Srinagar had the highest number of cases – 88. Srinagar’s tally of cases reached 6435, of which 2208 are active cases, undergoing treatment. 170 people from the district were discharged today after they recovered from the infection.

Anantnag district had 53 new cases. The total number of cases in Anantnag has reached 1665. Of these 335 are actively positive, while 1277 have recovered. The district has reported 35 COVID19 deaths till date.

In Kupwara 42 cases were confirmed today. These include many cases among samples taken from district police lines, a health official said. 1348 cases of the viral illness have come to fore from the district.

Baramulla, which has the second highest number of cases, had 26 new positives. The district has 2257 cases in total of which 508 are active.

Among other districts, Pulwama had 52 cases, Kulgam 17, Shopian 1, Budgam 29, Bandipora 29 and Ganderbal 39.

Only six travelers arriving in Kashmir tested positive today while in Jammu, the number of positives among travelers was 53.

Jammu district had 42 cases today, the highest in the division. 16 cases were reported from Poonch while 14 were reported from Kathua.
