6 killed, 1 injured in Rajouri road accident

Six persons were killed and another injured when an auto-rickshaw they were travelling in met with an accident in UjhanDhandkote village in Darhal area of Rajouri district on Sunday, officials said.

The auto-rickshaw (JK11C 1486), which was on way fromRajouri town to SabziDarhal and carrying seven persons, fell into a300-metre-deep gorge at UjhanDhandkote at around 1 am, an official said.

   

Four of the seven injured persons died on the spot, whilethree were rushed to district hospital Rajouri, where one of them latersuccumbed to injuries, an official said.

“The other two injured were referred to government medicalcollege and hospital, Jammu, but one of them succumbed during the transit,” theofficial said. Soon after receiving information about the accident, a majorrescue operation was started by teams of the police, health department, fireand emergency services department and local residents, until 3.30am, theofficial said.

The deceased were identified as Muhammad Shabir son ofMuhammad Rashid of Kalakote; MunirHussain son of Muhammad Abdullah of Aiti,Rajouri; Shokat Ali son of Muhammad Hussain; Resham Bi wife of MuhammadHussain; Muhammad Hussain, son of KhudaBaksh and Muhammad Bashir son ofGhulamHussain—all residents of SabziDarhal.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections ofthe law at police station Darhal. Meanwhile, deputy commissioner RajouriMuhammad AijazAsad sanctioned rupees one lakh as relief assistance to victimsof the road accident at SabziDodaj in Darhal area.

“Taking cognisance of the matter on humanitarian grounds,DDC Rajouri immediately sanctioned ninety thousand rupees in favour of familiesof all those killed in the accident, while an assistance of Rs 10000 wasprovided to the injured,” an official spokesman said.
