62 employees suspended for model code violation

As many as 62 employees have been suspended in J&K for allegedly campaigning for various political parties since the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the LokSabha elections on March 10.

An official told Greater Kashmir that District Election Officersare taking strict action against the employees who are participating inpolitical activities of different parties.

   

“There is no leniency against them”,” he said.

The MCC bars government employees from indulging in any modeof electioneering.

The official also disclosed that 15 FIRs have been lodgedagainst employees and others for “violating” the MCC or creating obstructionsin the election process.

He said 382 MCC violation complaints have been received bythe Chief Electoral Officer and District Election Officers in the past 40 days.

Of these, 284 complaints have been disposed of, while 93 areat different stages of scrutiny.

CEO Shailendra Kumar told Greater Kashmir that action is being taken against employees found involved in election campaigning. Since the announcement of LokSabha polls, the CEO has repeatedly appealed employees to follow the MCC in letter and spirit.

So far, elections have been held for four LokSabha seats in the state. In the first two phases, elections were held for Baramulla, Srinagar, Jammu and Udhampur seats. While Anantnag segment will go to polls on April 23, 29 and May 6, the Ladakh segment will have election on May 6.
