654 test positive; tally 31371

The tally of COVID19 reached 31371 on Friday with 654 people testing positive in the past 24 hours. Over 50,000 people have been tested in Kashmir using Rapid Antigen Test kits (RAT).

Today, 540 people tested positive in Kashmir division, over half of them using RAT kits. A health official said 320 people were found positive with RAT across districts of Kashmir.

   

J&K Government, the official said, has placed an order for 3 lakh testing kits for Kashmir division, a major part of which has already arrived. He said till date, approximately 50,000 people have been tested using RAT. While detailing, the official said, more than 4500 of these people had tested positive till Friday afternoon.

A senior medico said that RT-PCR was the gold-standard in COVID19 testing and it was important that people who test negative on RAT but are symptomatic, be tested again with RT-PCR. He said the probability of a false positive on RAT was low and a positive result was reliable.

In Kashmir today, over 70 defense personnel, more than 20 pregnant women and many healthcare workers tested positive. Today, 17 people returning from outside tested positive in Kashmir.

On Friday, in Srinagar district, 65 out of the 206 positive cases were detected using RAT. The positives included over 40 defense personnel, many of them contacts of known cases. Scores of cases were confirmed from Paraypora, Khayam, Eidgah, Lal Bazar, Indra Nagar and Raj Bhawan.

In Budgam, 68 cases came to light today. These included clusters in Chatergam, Bandgam, Pakherpora, Soibugh, Chadoora and Chrar-e-Sharief. Most of these clusters, a health official said, were more than four cases from a single contact in the same vicinity.

In Bandipora, 52 cases were confirmed today. Over half of these, 30, were from two army camps.

In Kulgam 40 cases were reported today. Among these, 20 were from a single village – Sachen. These people, a district’s health official said, were sampled randomly and were not symptomatic.

Anantnag district had 45 cases today. Using RAT, clusters of cases were detected at Larnoo, Sallar, Mattan and Dooru. Many employees of two health centers, a government and a private, were also found positive in the district.

The cases reported from other districts were: Baramulla 51, Pulwama 33, Kupwara 29, Ganderbal 16. No cases were reported today from Shopian.

The number of cases in Jammu was 114 today. Of these, 32 were arriving to the division from outside.

J&K Government’s information bulletin on COVID19 today said 580 people were discharged today after they recovered from the viral infection. The number of recovered cases reached 23805.
