7 more test positive in Kashmir, 62 cases in J&K

Seven new positive cases of COVID19 were detected on Wednesday, all in Kashmir division, taking the number of total cases in J&K to 62. One patient, with no recorded travel history is ‘very sick,’ officials said.

The aggressive contact tracing of positive cases lead to sixcases while one case has been detected ‘randomly’ – sample taken based onclinical findings.

   

Dr Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS said, twosamples tested positive at the Institute on Wednesday. He said one person agedaround 20 years whose travel or contact history could not be ascertained, hasalso tested positive. “The sample was taken based on the clinical findings. Heis very sick and undergoing treatment,” he said.

The son of the Tangmarg man who died of COVID19 on 29 Marchat CD Hospital here has also tested positive. He is admitted at GMC Baramullaand his sample has tested positive at SKIMS.

Apart from two at SKIMS, five fresh cases were tested atChest Diseases Hospital.

Dr S Saleem Khan, nodal officer for COVID19 at GMC Srinagarsaid three of the patients who tested positive cases were admitted at JLNMHospital, while two other samples, that tested positive had been received fromDistrict Hospital Pulwama.

Director health services Kashmir, Dr Sumir Mattoo, said allthe samples sent from JLNM and Pulwama were contacts of the previous cases andhad been traced by the field staff and surveillance teams. He said one of theCOVID19 positive persons from Pulwama had travelled from Saudi Arabia in thesame flight as the first positive case from Kashmir on 16 March.

The other one, he said, was a close contact of a positivecase who had travelled from Delhi and had already tested positive.

At JLNM Hospital, he said, one of the cases was a Srinagarresident and contact of a COVID19 positive person, the same that had infectedthe boy who tested positive at SKIMS on 31 March.

The other two, he said, were contacts of a person who hadreturned from Saudi Arabia and had tested positive.
