8 arrested for demanding bodies of militants

Police have registered a case and arrested eight persons who clashed with police while demanding the bodies of militants who were killed in Shopian and Pulwama encounters during the last 24 hours.

Seven militants were killed in two different encounters in Shopian and Pulwama districts of southern Kashmir since Friday afternoon.

   

Of late, police have been denying the bodies of the militants to their families as their funerals attracted large crowds.

The bodies of the militants killed today were brought to Police Control Room Srinagar before their burial in northern Kashmir.

Reports said that family members and relatives of the killed militants arrived at the gate of Police Control Room here. They were demanding bodies of the killed militants.

Police said SDPO Shaheed Gunj DySP Shahjahan sustained injuries in the clashes.

Officials said an FIR has been registered and eight family members and relatives were apprehended on the spot. They were identified by police as Basit Reyaz Lone of Muchpona Pulwama, Fayaz Ahmad Sofi of Sather Sangam, Mumtaz Ahmad Hafiz of Dalipora Pulwama, Adil Nazir Bhat of Muradpora Shopian, Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat of Muradpora Shopian, Ishaq Ahmad Mir of Muradpora Shopian, Sahil Mulhtar of Drubgam Pulwama and Shahnawaz Ahmad Pala of Aloora Bihibagh Kulgam.
