87,700 new admissions made in government schools

The school education department has recorded 87,714 fresh admissions of students of different age groups in government schools. Interestingly, a good number of government teachers have also admitted their kids in the government schools.

The department had started a comprehensive village level survey to identify and enrol ‘Out of School Children’ (OoSC) besides making new admission of students in kindergarten classes.

   

“We are getting good response from parents throughout Kashmir for taking admissions in government schools at different level,” Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Muhammad Younis Malik said.

He said the teachers are also reaching out to parents in villages and towns to enrol their kids in schools.

As per the official figures, the government schools in Nehalpora zone of Pattan in Baramulla district have got 40 new admissions of kids of government school teachers. “It is obviously a positive move that (government) teachers are enrolling their kids in government schools. If the same trend continues, we will see a complete change in government schools in every respect,” the DSEK said.

The government schools across Kashmir have got over 200 new admissions of kids of government school teachers during the ongoing enrolment drive of the education department.

“The number of new admissions in government schools is touching around one lakh which is an achievement for the department,” the DSEK said. The department has made fresh admissions of 87,714 students of different age groups in government schools, he said.

He said most of the students getting admissions in government schools have shifted from local private schools. “We have around 2000 new admissions of those students who shifted from private schools to government schools in various districts,” he said.

As per the official figures, Kupwara district has taken a lead in making fresh admissions of students of different age groups in government schools. The district has witnessed new admissions of 23028 students of different age groups in government schools. Kupwara is followed by Baramulla were fresh admissions of 14583 students have been made in government school during the enrolment drive.

Meanwhile, Anantnag district has made new admission of over 13182 students in government schools during the enrolment drive, Bandipora-6533, Budgam-8262, Ganderbal-2748, Kulgam-6500, Srinagar-2609, Shopian-5239 and Pulwama-5030 students.
