BJP’s Anantnag vice president shot dead

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Bharatiya Janata Party’s vice president for Anantnag inside his home at Verinag in south Kashmir on late Saturday evening, police said.

The slain was identified as 65-year old Ghulam Muhammad Miralias Atal. “At around 9:15 pm gunmen broke into his (Mir) house at hisresidence in Nowgam village of Verinag in Dooru and indiscriminately fired uponhim,” a police official said.

   

Mir was immediately removed to PHC Verinag in a criticalcondition wherefrom he was shifted to district hospital Anantnag. He, however,succumbed on the way.

“He had bullet injuries in his chest and on the spine. Hewas declared dead on arrival,” said a doctor at the district hospital.The slain was associated with BJP since long and had unsuccessfullycontested 2008 Assembly elections on the BJP ticket from Dooru constituency.Mir also remained associated with BJPs JK Muslim Morcha.
