Budgam, Kupwara operations continue

Security forces on Thursday carried out a search operation in Chadoora, district Budgam, even as Kawoosa and Lolab operations still continue.

“Both Kawoosa (Budgam) and Lolab (Kupwara) operations are in progress,” a senior Army official told Greater Kashmir. He said some more areas were searched in Budgam district on Thursday.

   

Source said a cordon and search operation was carried out in Chadoora area of Budgam district. However, they said no one was arrested.

“Still elite marine commandoes are searching Nallah Sukhan,” the officer said adding that joint parties are searching adjoining areas.

The operation in Kawoosa started on Monday after a gunfight broke out after Special Operation Group of J&K Police, Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force cordoned off the village on specific inputs about the presence of militants.

Meanwhile, Defence sources on Thursday said that an operation to flush out militants from Lolab forests and other area along Line the Control of frontier district of Kupwara continued for sixth consecutive day today.

Operation is underway with more area under cordon, a senior police officer posted in north Kashmir said. He said no fresh contact was established with hiding militants.

The operation in Lolab started on Saturday afternoon after exchange of fire between militants on the one hand and 28 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operation Group of J&K police on the other, in Warnow forests.

The searches are underway in Nagmar Gail, Bomes Gali which is boundary to Bandipora.

The search operation in the areas along Line of Control is also underway, defence source said.
