Congress fields Mir from Anantnag

The Congress Sunday announced that it would field its Jammu and Kashmir chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir from the southern Anantnag seat in the upcoming LokSabha elections.

“Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has approved the candidature of G A Mir for the ensuing election to the LokSabha from the Anantnag parliamentary constituency of Jammu and Kashmir,” a senior Congress leader said here.

Mir will contest against Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti, HasnainMasoodi of the National Conference and Sofi Yusuf of the BharaityaJanata Party.

Sources said Mir has expressed confidence in winning the Anantnag seat, arguing that the “PDP’s image has gone down because of its alliance with the BJP in their core constituencies and any boycott will only favour the Congress”.
