Covid 19 | J&K sees drop in cases, casualties

A slight drop was recorded in both new cases and deaths due to COVID19 in J&K on Sunday: 878 tested positive and 11 people lost lives across the two divisions.

The death toll attributed to COID19 reached 1261 today with the fresh casualties, among the 79106 tested positive till date.

   

Today five people were reported to have died after they had tested positive due to COVID19 in Kashmir division. Two of these were from Srinagar, one each from Budgam, Anantnag and Bandipora. No death was reported from SMHS Hospital today.

A 55 year old male from Lankrishipora Bandipora was the youngest person to succumb to the viral illness today. He was admitted at SKIMS Soura, a health official said.

A 62 year old male from Raj Bagh Srinagar admitted at SKIMS Soura passed away today a week after he had been admitted to the hospital. An 85 year old male from Khan Sahib Budgam also passed away today at SKIMS Soura.

One female from Alochi Bagh Srinagar, aged 65 years and admitted at Chest Diseases Hospital succumbed today, while a 70 year old male from Godool Anantnag died at GMC Anantnag, three days after he was admitted.

In Jammu division, 6 people were reported to have died due to the viral illness, a health official said.

The slump in new positives continued for the fourth day today. While on 01 October 1093 cases were confirmed, it dropped to 1090 on 02 October, to 975 on 03 October and to 878 today.

Among the new cases, 422 were from the Kashmir division. A health official said that 157 cases that tested positive in Kashmir today were symptomatic. “The symptoms in most are mild,” he said. He however said that everyday scores of people that are confirmed to be sick with COVID19 have severe symptoms and need hospitalization. Currently, he said, 6650 people in Kashmir division were recovering from COVID19 infection, hundreds of them admitted in hospitals.

Today, 78 samples taken randomly from across 10 districts of Kashmir tested positive. Random sampling had been increased in Srinagar district recently to help improve containment measures, the official said. Among the people who had reported close contact with a COVID19 positive person and who were located by contact tracing teams, 91 were found positive for the infection. 13 defence personnel and a healthcare worker tested positive today, in addition to 16 travelers.

In Srinagar, 156 people tested positive today. The total cases reported from this district till date is 15533. Of these, 1908 are active positive.

In other districts, the number of cases were: Budgam 53, Baramulla 52, Pulwama 17, Kupwara 12, Anantnag 30, Bandipora 54, Ganderbal 33, Kulgam 6 and Shopian 9.

In Jammu division, 14 travelers were reported as positive. In district Jammu, 252 people were confirmed to be infected with COVID19. Currently, 3534 cases in this district are recovering from infection. Jammu city has also suffered 203 COVID19 deaths.

Today, 1053 people recovered from COVID19 infection, the official bulletin on the pandemic said. The cumulative number of recovered patients is 62404, 78.8 percent of the reported cases.
