COVID claims 18 more lives in JK

The cumulative caseload in J&K reached 69,832 with 1218 people testing positive for COVID19 between Thursday and Friday, while 18 people were reported to have lost lives.

Out of the 69,832 people who have tested positive in J&K till date, 1122 have succumbed to the viral respiratory illness. The fatality rate, among those testing positive here is 1.6 percent. However, between Jammu and Kashmir divisions, there is a wide difference in the deaths. In Kashmir, as per the official media bulletin on COVID19, out of the 43,718 confirmed cases, 811 people have lost life. The death rate in Kashmir division is thus 1.8 percent. In Jammu division, 294 people out of the 26114 have succumbed – 1.1 percent death rate.

   

A health official said that 7 people died today of COVID19 in Kashmir division. Of these, three were admitted at SMHS Hospital, two at Chest Diseases Hospital, and one each at SIMS Medical College Hospital and District Hospital Pulwama.

The patients who lost the battle at SMHS were a 60 year old female from Bemina Srinagar, a 60 year old male from Wahabpora Budgam and a 70 year old male from Lasjan Srinagar.

At Chest Diseases Hospital, a 62 year old male from Raj Bagh Srinagar and a 70 year old female from Bemina Srinagar passed away.

At SKIMS Medical College Hospital Bemina, a 74 year old male from Bandipora lost life late evening on Friday. An 80 year old male from Pampore Pulwama died at DH Pulwama 10 days after admission, the official said.

Meanwhile, 11 people were reported to have died in Jammu division between Thursday and Friday, as per information issued by J&K Government.

In Kashmir, 576 people tested positive. Of these, 224 were from Srinagar district. As per an official in the health department, only 20 among the fresh cases in Srinagar had history of contact with a known case. A majority of the remaining cases were those who had no known history of contact. These included 20 among those voluntarily getting sampled, 78 randomly taken samples 79 were symptomatic, 5 were service providers and 25 defence personnel.

In other districts, the new cases today were: Budgam 61, Baramulla 64, Pulwama 51, Anantnag 36, Bandipora 26, Kupwara 31, Ganderbal 53, Kulgam 5 and Shopian 25.

673 people recovered from COVID19 infection today in Kashmir, while 805 recovered in Jammu division.

In Jammu, out of the 642 new cases, 240 were from district Jammu. Today, 20 travelers arriving in Kashmir and 56 travelers arriving in Jammu tested positive.
