COVID19 |12 non-locals among 25 new cases in J&K, total 270

Toll of COVID19 infected people in J&K reached 270 on Monday with 25 new cases detected, including 12 non-locals and a four-year old child.

J&K Government principal secretary Rohit Kansalannounced 25 new cases of COVID19. All cases, he said, had been tested inKashmir division.

   

Twelve of the positive cases, Dr S Saleem Khan, in-chargeCOVID19 at GMC Srinagar, said, were non-locals. “They were under quarantine andtested positive today,” he said. He said the fresh cases were from the samegroup from which seven tested positive on 10 April.

The official said the group of 46 people from outsideJ&K is under quarantine at a facility in Pampore since 4 April. The group,he said, had arrived in Kashmir on 26 March.

One more patient, a female, whose sample was found to bepositive at CD Hospital lab is a contact of a man who tested positive recently.

While providing details, Dr Khan said, 142 samples weretested at the CD Hospital lab in the past 24 hours, of which 13 were found tobe positive. He said 72 more samples were under process when this report wasfiled.

At SKIMS lab, 12 samples tested positive.

Among the new positive cases is a four-year old child, afemale from Bandipora district. An official from directorate of health servicessaid mother of the child has also tested positive today while a family memberhad tested positive two days ago. He said four of the family have testedpositive till date.

Dr Farooq Jan, medical superintendent SKIMS said eightpeople from the same village as the child’s tested positive today while manyhad been found positive in the past few days. In addition, one more person,from an adjoining area in Bandipora also tested positive. “We have ninepositive cases from Bandipora today,” he said.

Dr Jan said three people from district Baramulla had alsotested positive. The samples had been taken at GMC Baramulla, he said. Onepatient is from Tangmarg, one from Sopore and one from Baramulla town,” hesaid. He said 207 samples were tested at SKIMS in the past 24 hours.

The toll of cases has reached 270 in J&K today. Of these222 are in Kashmir division, while 48 are in Jammu division. Four deaths havebeen recorded in UT due to the viral infection.

Government in its official bulletin said 10 more people weredeclared as recovered today.

J&K has been seeing an average of 23.6 cases a day forthe past five days. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, whilespeaking to the Greater Kashmir on Sunday said that number of cases of COVID19were expected to rise as J&K was increasing the quantum of testing. He saidpeople should not get scared with the rise in cases. “Every identified case isa step towards bringing epidemic under control,” he said.
