COVID19: 13 deaths, 824 new cases in J&K

At least 13 COVID19 deaths were reported from across J&K on Monday, taking the toll to 1,163. Though J&K recorded 824 new, the number is the lowest since September 2.

For the past 26, the number of new COVID19 cases reported daily has been more than 1000. On 2 September, 641 cases were reported, consistently increasing thereafter and reaching the highest single day rise on 12 September when 1698 people tested positive.

   

As per information issued by J&K Government, in the past 24 hours, 18297 tests were carried out in the two divisions of UT. Till date 1581606 samples have been tested for the viral infection, the information bulletin issued by Government said. The cumulative cases reported till date are 73014.

Among the 824 new cases, 284 were from Kashmir division while 540 were from Jammu division. The new cases reported today in the Kashmir division are the lowest since September 1. The new cases reported in Kashmir include 40 defence/police personnel, 32 random samples, 79 symptomatic people, 11 healthcare workers and 60 contacts of known cases.

A number of cases were reported from Lal Bazar, Alluchi Bagh and Hazratbal in Srinagar, Muchwa in Budgam, Daderpora in Kupwara, Tral in Pulwama and Kanthbagh in Baramulla.

The district wise number of cases today were: Srinagar 105, Budgam 27, Barmulla 26, Pulwama 33, Anantnag 18, Bandipora 9, Kupwara 44, Ganderbal 13, Kulgam 1 and Shopian 8.

Jammu district had one of its highest increase in the number of cases today when 337 people tested positive. The district now has 3578 active cases, the highest for any district in J&K. J&K Government has maintained that there is no dearth of hospital beds in the district and the entire division. As per the information issued by Government today, 120 isolation beds are available in GMC Jammu of which 70 are vacant. Similarly, at Chest Diseases Hospital Jammu, 110 isolation beds are available of which 59 are vacant. Overall, in Jammu division, 1306 beds have been earmarked for COVID19 of which 371 are occupied. 50 ICU beds are also vacant in the division.

Today, 1408 patients recovered from COVID19, the total reaching 54267.

The Kashmir division saw a major dip in the number of COVID19 deaths today. Only two people were reported to have died of the viral infection in the division. A 65 year old female from Pazalpora Bandipora passed away at SKIMS Medical College Hospital Bemina, a 55 year old male from Bongam Shopian lost life at SMHS Hospital.

In Jammu division, 11 deaths were reported today.
