Covid19: 16 deaths in J&K, 1093 new positives

With three deaths in Kashmir and 13 in Jammu, 16 people died due to COVID19 in J&K while 1093 new cases were detected on Thursday, the total mounting to 76163. Death toll in J&K has reached 1217.

Thursday saw a dip in COVID19 deaths in Kashmir. The fresh casualties of the viral illness in the division include a 38 year old male from Uthmulla Pulwama. The patient was admitted at SKIMS for treatment of leukaemia and had tested positive for COVID19, a doctor said. He said the young man died of cardiac arrest.

   

A 60 year old female from Arigam Khansahib Budgam admitted at SMHS Hospital succumbed to the viral disease today. Another 60 year old male from Khanabal Anantnag admitted at SMHS Hospital also succumbed today.

In Jammu division, 13 deaths were reported today.

Meanwhile, 1093 people tested positive in J&K. In the past 24 hours, 20947 tests were carried out in J&K, official information reveals. The positive percentage has been consistent with the percentage over the past month, although a slight drop has been seen in the past one week, a health official said.

Today, 568 people tested positive in Jammu and 407 in Kashmir.

In Kashmir, 82 people that tested positive today were contacts of known cases. 143 people that tested positive today were symptomatic. 68 randomly taken samples were also found positive today.

In Kashmir, 45799 people have tested positive till date. Of these, 3268 have been sampled upon their return from outside the UT, while 42531 have been non-travelers. A health official said that in the initial months of the pandemic, contacts were the major sub-group that was found positive. However, now, the trend has changed and non-contacts – random samples, self reported and accidentally discovered are found positive.

The district-wise break-up of cases today was: Srinagar 173, Budgam 48, Baramulla 53, Pulwama 33, Anantnag 60, Bandipora 15, Kupwara 38, Ganderal 23, Kulgam 6, Shopian 2.

In Kashmir, 28 people sampled upon their return tested positive. 37885 people have recovered in Kashmir from the viral infection. Of these, 565 recovered today.

In Jammu division, 18987 people have recovered, out of the 29271 that tested positive till date. Today, 790 people recovered from the infection.

In Jammu district, 353 people tested positive today. 13015 people have tested positive in Jammu till date.

J&K Government data on availability of dedicated COVID19 beds, ICU beds and ventilators states ample availability across all districts.
