Day 2: Forces search for militants in Kandi forests

The cordon and search operation launched by the security forces in  Kandi area of this frontier district to trace the militants continued for second consecutive day on Friday.

It’s in place to mention here that joint party of thesecurity forces had cordoned off the woods of Portel Nad and Razdan Nad ofKandi forests on Thursday morning after inputs about the presence of militantsthere. “A brief exchange of gunfire took place in the early phase of theoperation between security forces and militants on Thursday,” a police officialsaid. “But the contact was lost following which the intense search operationhas been launched.  More reinforcementsare being rushed and choppers have been pressed into service to locate thehiding militants.”

   

Asif Ahmad, a local of the area told Greater Kashmir thatsome gunshots were heard on Thursday morning hours, but from afternoon tillevening hours choppers were hovering in and around the forests. “There is heavydeployment of security forces around the forest and nobody was allowed to movetowards the forest on Friday,” he said.
