Day 2: Forces search for militants in Kandi forests

The cordon and search operation launched by the security forces in  Kandi area of this frontier district to trace the militants continued for second consecutive day on Friday.

It’s in place to mention here that joint party of the security forces had cordoned off the woods of Portel Nad and Razdan Nad of Kandi forests on Thursday morning after inputs about the presence of militants there. “A brief exchange of gunfire took place in the early phase of the operation between security forces and militants on Thursday,” a police official said. “But the contact was lost following which the intense search operation has been launched.  More reinforcements are being rushed and choppers have been pressed into service to locate the hiding militants.”

Asif Ahmad, a local of the area told Greater Kashmir that some gunshots were heard on Thursday morning hours, but from afternoon till evening hours choppers were hovering in and around the forests. “There is heavy deployment of security forces around the forest and nobody was allowed to move towards the forest on Friday,” he said.
