DDC polls: Campaign for phase-I of DDC polls ends

The campaign for phase-I of District Development Council (DDC) elections ended on Thursday, the voting will be held on November 28.

“43 DDC constituencies will go to polls for which 296 candidates are in the fray,” State Election Commissioner, KK Sharma, told the Greater Kashmir.

   

Sharma said that they have made elaborate arrangements for the elections in all the districts for the first phase. Of total 43 DDC seats in first phase, 25 seats are in Kashmir and 18 in the Jammu division.

Sharma said that he has directed to set-up special polling stations for Kashmiri Migrants at Jammu and Udhampur.

“All Deputy Commissioners in Kashmir Valley will notify the setting up of polling stations for Kashmiri Migrants of Jammu and Udhampur districts so that they can participate in the upcoming DDC elections,” he said.

He further informed that Relief Commissioner has been appointed as Nodal Officer for conducting and providing necessary infrastructural support for setting up of these polling stations and polling parties.

BJP engaged 12 star campaigners in the polls, five central ministers remained stationed in J&K.

Among the star campaigners were MoS PMO Dr Jatinder Singh, Union Minister VK Singh, Union Minister Mukhtar Abass Naqvi, Union MoS Kishan Pal Gurjar, MoS Finance Anurag Thakur, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur, senior leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, Incharge J&K Tarun Chugh, senior leader from Delhi Ashish Sood and MP Rajya Sabha Syed Zaffar Islam.

On the last day, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh campaigned for the BJP candidates in Kathua district.
